Summer of 23 (Day 6): Rocky Mountain National Park

Photo heavy post… sorry not sorry. Last night was a night. Messi needed to go potty at 11:30 pm, 2:15 am, and like 6 am. His tummy didn’t handle the additional things he ate while hanging with his puppy friend Willy. He is doing better today… but it was an interesting night.

Today we woke up and drove into Rocky Mountain National Park. They have timed entry between 9 am- 2 pm, and we had a reservation for 9-11(?). We got into the park after waiting in a long line of cars to get in and decided to drive to get above the tree line since we had Messi and Amelia= limiting our options. We have done this drive once when we lived in Colorado, but not since.

We saw some wildlife out while driving… including this cute deer who was a part of a bigger group that isn’t in the photo. They were further back from the road and harder to see.

I mean seriously, you gotta love Rocky Mountain. It is ALWAYS gorgeous!

We made it above the tree line! It was in the low 50’s and super windy! The kids didn’t enjoy it much…

Still stunning tho! Even while windy and cold!

We had a second goal and that was to touch some snow as there is still a lot on the mountains even though it’s July 6!

Luckily, there was some right next to a parking pull off area. Pretty sure it was Messi’s first experience with snow. He didn’t mind at all and actually tried eating some!

We all got our hands in… we kept peanut in the truck for this stop and brought a couple snow balls to her to feel. It’s obvious by her face, but she was not impressed.

The boys had a mini snow-ball fight and DJ even opted to throw some at the truck.

We ended up eating lunch in the truck with this view. Not too shabby if you ask me. We kept it simple and did PB banana roll-ups in the truck.

Since Amelia had shoes on the second time we stopped, we got her out at the creek/ ranger station/ bathroom. She loved exploring for a bit until the wind picked up and it started raining a bit.

We drove around a bit more and realized everyone was burnt toast so headed back to the camper. Messi snuggled in with Amelia on the drive back and it was the absolute cutest thing ever!

When we got back to the camper, both kids took naps. Jackson was definitely running on empty and needed it. Amelia fell asleep on DJ. All the snuggles!

We had to wake up Jackson so hopefully he sleeps tonight. He got somewhere in the 1-1.5 hours for a nap. Snuggles on the double camp chair with the 5 of us!

Dinner was some potato/veggie/black bean concoction I made in the instant pot. Afterwards, the boys left Amelia, Messi, and myself to go into Estes Park to do some climbing with our friends.

I did my YogaBurn (since I didn’t do it this morning) and got Amelia to bed. I also did a little cleaning up of the camper and Netflix-ed and chilled.

The boys just got back while I am finishing writing this blog and we are all starting to get ready for bed now.

Good night!
