2024 Summer Day 4

All the grandparents were busy during the day today. My parents went into the cities to see a matinee at a dinner theater. DJ’s parents both had to work.

So, we opted to get outside and enjoyed the not-so-crappy weather.

First we walked around the lake in town. It’s just under 4 miles, so OCD in me… I kept going until I hit the 4 mile mark on my watch.

DJ left with us but ran the 4 miles and then turned around where we parked the truck. He backtracked and ran back at us to meet up with us. He found us at our mile 2.8. So he ended up running just over 5 miles and walked back with us the last mile. It worked out quite well.

We did loaded baked potatoes with black eye peas for lunch and then headed back to the lake to take the kayaks out. It was a gorgeous afternoon. All of us (Messi included) thoroughly enjoyed kayaking today.

Jackson is such a boss. And his hair is such a vibe. DJ made an off-hand comment about his (jokingly said) “stupid” hair not fitting under a hat. (For a reference, DJ had this same hair when he graduated high school so he likes to poke fun at Jackson for it). It is getting super long tho!

Jackson had Messi with both times he got on the kayak today, those two are connected at the hip. Messi had the biggest puppy-smile today while cruising around the shallow area by the reeds.

Amelia got on with me after Jackson, Messi and I cruised around for a bit first.

Amelia had her left hand in the water most of the time and it acted like a rudder and kept pulling our kayak to the left a bit.

Such a chill afternoon on the lake! The boys had a good paddle too! I love that this is an activity we can all participate in. However, I don’t think Amelia and I will fit on the same kayak next summer, she is getting sooo big! We have been peaking online at double kayaks and leaning towards probably getting one in the next year or so.

After kayaking we showered and then Jackson and Grandma snuck off to Dairy Queen to get some treats before dinner.

We had veggie fajita rice bowls tonight. The rest of the evening was pretty chill and my parents stopped over for a bit to hang out. It’s so nice having both our parents in the same small town. Makes our lives so much easier!

Random transition… but Puppies! Miss Messi wants to officially introduce you to his besties Duke (black puppy) and Daisy (tan and grey puppy). They are my in-laws dogs and they are the cutest little things and are only 5 months old!

That’s about it for today. Good night!
