2024 Summer Day 1: VA to IN

…And we are off on our next camping road-trip adventure! We are all SUPER excited to be Minnesota-bound again! (However, I think Messi was the most excited to get into the truck today).

We left this morning, just after 9:00 am, which was super impressive considering DJ got home from a red-eye flight from an international work trip at 6:45 am.

We have had a relatively good drive so far. The only hiccup was when the first gas station we went to didn’t haven’t gas. Luckily, there was another gas station nearby that wasn’t difficult to get to.

For lunch today, we had smoothies that I blended at home before we left along with these veggie & hummus wraps from Trader Joe’s. Jackson had a Lunchable with his smoothie and Amelia had a gtube feed and orally ate pepperoni and cheese.

I ate lunch in the backseat today to keep tabs on Amelia’s bento box and make sure the pepperoni didn’t end up all over the floor. No complaints tho having my pineapple-cherry green smoothie in my IronFlask water bottle while on the road. We definitely have hacked our travel days and systems quite well now. For us, smoothies are fabulous travel food.

Amelia’s face in this photo tho, lol… can you believe that the 4 of us (Messi included, who is in his travel kennel where my feet would go) were all within like 1/2 a square foot here for lunch? My babies aren’t babies anymore!

We are paying to drive on the toll interstates to go faster and more direct (didn’t do this last year on the way home to VA and it slowed us down a lot).

In Ohio, they have rest stations off the Ohio Turnpike Interstate 80/90 that are quite well set up… gas, restrooms, showers, a food court, gas station type of snacks… a complete nice travel plaza situation. We grabbed gas and used the bathrooms and then parked the camper in the shade and had some dinner.

DJ and I busted into our prepped veggie sushi bowls. Jackson had a PB&J. Amelia didn’t want her bacon and cheese bento box, so she got a gtube feed while in the truck.

The veggie sushi bowls were super yummy… it was definitely a fruit and veggie-heavy food day today which makes us happy!

All mixed up… there was a Trader Joe’s salad mix hiding underneath the chopped veggies.

So, today we left Virginia and are staying in Middlebury, Indiana. Mapping it out, we did about 580 miles, not too shabby!

Tomorrow we will have about 600 miles left to drive. So, we are just barely under half-ways!

Snack time right before we got to our campsite. (Always a good idea to get to the campsite with nobody being hangry… it’s just not a great way to start). These are a favorite of mine. Notice the clear bag behind the Frooze Balls for our snacks? I’m trying it out as it’s easier to see and know what we have in the truck when the boys ask. So far, I like it verses a cooler bag I was using before.

We got parked in our pull-thru campsite without problems. I had bought a LevelMatePRO two summers ago (?). Finally installed it last week. It’s a device that pairs with your phone to tell you in real time how you’re doing level left to right and front to back. It’s awesome. DJ is in love.

Tomorrow we will continue onto Minnesota. We can’t wait to see our families!

Oh, and PS- Jackson has watched a few episodes of The Office this last year. He got the complete series as a box DVD set for his birthday to watch in the truck on camping road-trips. He just started from the beginning today. DJ and I are enjoying his giggles and jokes from the front seat. Jackson is the bestest and is getting super witty!

That is all for tonight! I’m off to shower, prep Amelia’s morning meds, and finish washing our IronFlask (water) smoothie bottles. Good night!
