Summer of 23 (Day 9): Minnesota

We made it!

And today was a reset day with lots of time seeing family and friends. Laundry, dishes, groceries… all the necessary things after living in the camper for 9 days.

Little snippet of the amount of time and miles we put on… DJ started the “Trip B” about 18 miles from our home in Virginia… so add that to the total distance as we are at 2,887 miles so far! Craziness!

Sorry, but I’m about to fall asleep… so I will be editing this post more in the morning and talking about our Walmart parking lot camping experience… until tomorrow… Good night!

Edit:

We were set on driving to Litchfield and were set to arrive sometime in the 1:30 am range. It got to be about 11:30 pm and DJ looked at me and asked if I could look on the iOverlander app to see if there was any free camping in the area since it was too late to check into any campgrounds.

I found that the Walmart in Marshall allows overnight camping. From my understanding, Walmart allows camping with a couple conditions. Some of the conditions: you aren’t allow to set up a camp, don’t put out your awning, don’t set out chairs, don’t put down your stabiles jacks, etc… Basically don’t make it look like you are camping. The overnight camping at Walmart is for short stays and to resupply.

Most Walmarts allow this style of quick overnight camping. They don’t if the city it’s located in has an ordinance against it.

We parked just before midnight and left about 6:30 am. There was another camper that got to Walmart about 5 minutes after us. For it being our first time doing a dry/boondock camping at Walmart, we have no complaints. It was quite and we all slept super well since we we’re exhausted.

It was definitely the correct decision. DJ could have kept driving, but he was getting tired and it was safer to pull over and sleep, especially considering we had our beds behind us in the camper.

As mentioned above, we left about 6:30 am drove the rest of the way to Litchfield and arrived about 8-ish am. No complaints. It was the correct decision.

We are happy to be settled in one place for now, at DJ’s parent’s front yard for the next several days and not having to drive much. The camper got a reset on Sunday: laundry, dishes, etc… We will be hanging around Litch for the next several days!
