We got re-set and ready to take on Estes Park this morning. We left DJ’s sister’s house about 10 am and made the drive to Lily Lake in Rocky Mountain National Park to meet our friends and their 2 girls.
It was supposed to be a climbing day for the crew, but the weather had other plans… photo below is when it hailed. It’s been storming off and on all day. Unfortunately, that meant rock climbing was a no-go as it was too wet.
We decided to walk the .9 mile around Lily Lake with the big kids. DJ, Messi, and Amelia stayed back in the camper. Fortunately, we weren’t able to check in to our campsite until 2, so it worked well that we still had the camper with to hang out in during the less than ideal weather. All 8 humans and Messi were in the camper for a bit today.
Check out that parking spot (above)! We got lucky with a nice pull-off the road spot that was fairly level.

Definitely trying to make the best out of today while in Colorado with friends!
Got to our campsite about 5 minutes away from the the lake and the kids chilled out in their bunks for awhile while I made dinner.
DJ requested a beans and rice meal and this is what I came up with. It was really good and Jackson really liked it. Just a can of chickpeas, some frozen peppers and onions, garlic powder, onion powder, salt and pepper, Trader Joe’s mushroom powder, veggie bouillon, a little oil, and DJ and I added some Trader Joe’s sriracha powder to ours. Served on top of rice. Definitely making it again. It was yummy!
Our friends came onto our campsite for a bit this evening after they got dinner and settled. The big kids played some games, took Messi for a walk and the adults hung out by the fire chatting and catching up (it’s only been 4 months!)
We put Messi’s kennel in the “garage” space of the camper. That means we can open the door and expose the side of his pop-up kennel creating a screened window for him. He wasn’t overly amused by this today, but tolerated it for awhile. (We had popped him in his kennel as he seemed like he was getting a little burnt out).
Our friends took off at about 8 pm. We showered and are getting ready for bed. Everybody be tired and burnt out. Good night!
