Summer of 23 (Day 1): Virginia-Ohio

And we are off!

Impressively, we took off today just before 9 am. To note, DJ flew back in yesterday from a work trip and landed just before 3 pm, so this quick turnaround was impressive.

Messi has been doing sooo well today. (Yes, he needs a haircut as he is getting quite scruffy). He has not spent much time in the car up until now and has thrown up while driving at least 3 times since we got him in April. He seems to be settling into the truck and how to behave on thr road. (I had to show him how to put his front paws on the window and look out)… He’s getting the hang of it.

Nothing exciting today for food or stops. DJ and I blended our green smoothies before we left and had them ready to go hanging out in our IronFlask water bottles. I had Amelia’s gtube blends ready and in their “Squeazy” bottles ready to go in the fridge. Amelia is currently only choosing to eat cojack cheese so she had some of that with her gtube lunch. Jackson and DJ both had Nutella sandwiches and Cheez-it’s for lunch.

For dinner, we had PB & banana wraps and cookie butter & pear wraps that I made in the truck while we continued to drive.

Unfortunately, DC area traffic was terrible this morning and added well over an hour+ to our drive today. We did this last year too… leaving on July 1 puts us in with a lot of 4th of July traffic. Last year’s day 1 drive from San Diego had us stuck in traffic/road construction in the middle of the desert in over 105° F heat. It was not a safe situation for anyone to be in. Luckily, temps are in the upper 70’s/low 80’s today and we aren’t stuck in the middle of the desert with no services between Las Vegas, NV and St. George, UT.

We made it to our KOA in Ohio tonight. Not doing much except dishes, showers, and going to bed. It was a long day of driving.

Miss Amelia actually fell asleep in the truck while we were parking the camper. Her evening meds are given at 7 pm and are quite strong… so they usually put her to sleep by 7:15-7:30 pm.

Messi’s first night in the camper. He has already hung out in his kennel a bit since getting to our campsite. It maybe an interesting evening tho with lots of fireworks. We already have some bonus white noise going ontop of the AC to help drown it out as it’s making Messi a little anxious.

Wish us luck! DJ is getting gas currently so we can hook up and start driving after we are done with breakfast! Good night!
