Quick update tonight… We ditched our camper at the site we had booked on Jekyll Island and checked into a hotel.

We made it to the Atlantic Ocean today. Pacific Coast to Atlantic Coast in 2 weeks!

We are here with DJ’s cousin, Becca, and her family. So… the rest of today’s post will be added later. I promise. I prioritized socializing and getting dessert with Becca tonight (mom’s night out!) and am about to shower and go to bed!
I’ll get the rest of our day today posted tomorrow.
Goodnight!
EDIT: Let’s finish this post….
Yesterday, we had some rain in the morning while we were checking out of our motel and driving the 45 minutes to Jekyll Island.
Upon arriving on the island, we had a humorously awkward time trying to connect and locate Becca and her crew. It didn’t help we kept moving with the camper attached… it was like a cross between hide and seek, Marco-Polo, and tag with a lot of dropping and sending pins of our locations.
We connected and they took Jackson on a dolphin watch tour boat ride thing, not sure what the official name is called… unfortunately, they didn’t see any on their 1.5 hour excursion.
While they were off looking for dolphins, DJ and I parked the camper at our campsite above. (Isn’t it adorable?… would have been fun to actually camp there). Instead, we are using the site as a $50/night parking spot for the camper so we can be more agile and flexible with the truck.
DJ and I were commenting on our drive to Jekyll Island yesterday that we had totally lost our mojo on this road-trip. The accident totally changed the dynamics, motivation, ability to continue in the same manner we had started. DJ had intentionally booked us for several 2 night stays so we could ditch the camper and explore with the truck. Once we switched to 1-night hotels stays with the camper acting as our u-haul, we greatly reduced our ability to do much besides drive and go park at a hotel for the night.
We canceled New Orleans, LA. We canceled Pensacola, FL. We have canceled and won’t be doing Outer Banks, NC. Obviously we made the road-trip into a big vacation because we could. However, the priority is obviously the move and transporting ourselves from San Diego to Virginia.
We had pizza with Becca and her family outside of their hotel. DJ and I got the veggie pizza and it was fabulous!

After pizza and Oreos, the kids played soccer in the grassy area next to the hotel. The beach is just behind them and the sand dunes.

Our view from our hotel… we may or may not attempt to get into the pool today still… tbd. We saw people swimming yesterday, I’m not sure if it’s heated or not. (Guessing not?)
After our pizza dinner, I headed up with Amelia to get her showered and get her evening meds. DJ and I swapped later and I headed down to the beach to see the fabulous pink hues from the sunset.
Below is Jackson with Becca’s middle child.

Cold toes!
As mentioned above, later last evening, Becca and I went and found some dessert. I got my first piece of pecan pie ever and Becca had a slice of New York cheesecake and we hung out chatting for close to two hours. DJ hung out with the peanut. Jackson hung out with Adam and the other kids watching a movie.
We are having lots of fun with Becca and her family today… heads up, I will probably mini-post again tonight and finish it later again.
We are staying at the hotel again tonight and checking out and starting to drive north tomorrow, later in the afternoon.
