Day 12: Louisiana – Florida

Yep, we made it out of Louisiana… FINALLY! We drove from Louisiana – Mississippi – Alabama – and landed in Florida.

First though, we went and picked up the seizure med for Amelia… holy wow that copay was expensive! ($540! Copy for a 1 month supply). I’m thinking it might be pushed to the top of the list to try to wean completely first. She takes 1 tablet a day… so she can baby step to 3/4 pill, 1/2 pill, 1/4 pill… fingers crossed! We never had to pay the copay on it as she had Medi-Cal (which clearly dropped when we moved… and can’t be used out of state) as secondary insurance since before she started that medication.

Anyways, while driving along the I-10, we saw several ads for BUC-EE’S! We were excited the whole 92 more miles there. IT. WAS. INSANE! Apparently the BUC-EE’S in Mobile, AL is quite new and is quite the attraction. Add to that, there isn’t anything else at that exit, spring break traffic, Saturday traffic, and it being 12:45 pm =lunchtime traffic, it is impressive we made it out of there without getting into another accident. Seriously crazy busy. DJ got gas with Amelia while Jackson and is ran inside. We got the kid’s lunch, more PECANS! (and cashews), and a couple more quick goodies. It was a complete madhouse and the total opposite experience from our first stop.

The rest of the day was pretty boring. We prioritized driving and getting into Florida today. We are at a cheap motel, for the night, which has actually been nice. As we are at a motel, the door leading outside is super close to where we parked the camper. We did a quick reset in the camper tonight as it was looking quite disheveled. I washed our couple dishes in the motel, we put some things away, and DJ duct taped the toilet to the floor. We realized the camper can still work for lunch breaks on the road and needed it in better shape to do so.

Tomorrow we are driving to get close to Jekyll Island. DJ’s cousin and family ironically planned their family spring break there this coming week and we discovered the coincidence before leaving San Diego. (We were supposed to be camping on Jekyll Island for 3 nights). We will be meeting up with them for some fun soon!

That’s about all for tonight. We aren’t looking forward to daylight savings tomorrow… because as it is, we are also crossing over into EST timeline from central, so tomorrow we will loose 2 hours within a few hours.
