Non-travel day today meant a slow snuggly morning as we are still adjusting to the central time zone. I am appreciating the fact we get to ease the kids and ourselves into the east coast time zone slowly. I can’t imagine trying to adjust Amelia ahead 3 hours quickly without a huge struggle and messing with her sleep cycle completely.
This morning, Amelia and I had a scheduled zoom with her new school district staff. There were 4 staff on the zoom, which was pretty impressive. The zoom wasn’t to accomplish anything specific, but they wanted to see her and get to know her a bit better before our arrival. Questions ranged from her interests, her iPad communication device skills, brief medical overview, if she uses adaptive seating in the classroom, her current abilities, etc… they are starting to get ready for miss peanut!

After the zoom and lunch, we took Amelia down to the lake for the first time. (The rest of us had already filtered down there at different times).

Seriously sassy…ALL. THE. TIME.

These photos really don’t do these cypress trees justice. They are just so jaw-droppingly stunning and creepy all at the same time. I’ve never seen anything like them before in my life.

Amelia was intrigued and wanted to go swimming, but the water is SUPER gross… so definitely not happening.

Apparently there are some alligators around, but they aren’t super big and they hardly make an appearance in this part of the lake. BTW- this little section of the lake is only a sliver of the whole lake. This area is kinda sectioned off on it’s own.

This afternoon I got to take my kayak out by myself. DJ went kayaking this morning by himself first. He decided that the lake was gnarly enough that we shouldn’t let the kids on the lake. Quite a good call.

Again, these cypress trees don’t photograph well. They are mysterious, mystical, magical, stunning, creepy, and eerie. It’s like a combination of the Little Mermaid’s Kiss the Girl and a horror movie. Not sure if you should be freaked out or in awe. Haunting and elegant.

Add that to the fact the water is so still and it’s quiet on the lake… plus the tiny chance of alligators, it was quite the exhilarating and magical experience.

Our campsite here at Caddo Lake State Park, TX is quite gorgeous. It definitely smells musty in the morning when you first head outside though, swampy + forest.

Dinner tonight was banana pancakes on the Blackstone. It was a nice calm night, which is helpful to not be fighting with the wind to cook the pancakes (yep, I’ve done that before).

The dock and lake at night (taken last night). Jackson and I walked down there and experienced all the horror movie vibes.

Last night was played a game with our AC and heater. I wasn’t sure what our camper temp would do with a low of like 56° last night. So, I set the heater to 70° and the AC to 74°. The AC won. Tonight we are going to lower the AC and probably leave off the heater. We definitely like getting cozy at bedtime and it’s funny how different it feels to heat to 75° when it’s freezing temps verses cool to 74°.
Tomorrow is a drive day and won’t be overly exciting… until tomorrow!
