Day 1: San Diego – Tucson

We woke up for the last time in San Diego (area… technically Coronado is it’s own city). We did breakfast, showers, and got loaded and ready to go. (Aren’t we looking legit with the kayaks mounted now?)

That view though, was SUPER hard to leave. The campground we spent the last 3 nights at, was a Navy campground on Coronado Island. Although the weather here has been a bit crappy, (I know, I know… it’s just rain) it just gives you the feels being able to see the bay, downtown San Diego, the Naval ships, sailboats, and the iconic blue Coronado Bridge that is big enough to fit battleships under, etc… all from your campsite.

Gorgeous.

We left around 9:45 am from sea level… and within the hour, we had gained 4000 feet in elevation and SNOW! Gross! Fortunately, the snow and wind didn’t last very long as we came back down the mountains and into the dessert of Southern California.

Seriously, umm… no. Thankfully, just a quick pass through the snow (at least for now). BTW- not excited that we will be living where it snows again.

We crossed into Arizona this afternoon and will be staying here for the next 2 nights.

As for the kids… Jackson did his homeschool work in the truck this morning. Amelia did fantastic today while driving and kept herself entertained from her toys, play iPad, and watching movies.

As a random side note, we thoroughly enjoy having the camper with us while road-tripping. We utilized it today for making lunches and a necessary roadside potty for miss peanut. Dinner consisted of vegetarian tacos from Taco Bell for the hubs and myself and the kids had McDonald’s. (Not my first choice, but quick and easy while in the middle of a long day of driving).

We arrived at sunset to our HipCamp spot right at sunset. I’m at beyond thrilled at the location and views. Lots of cactus around and we are very much secluded from others. There was also a super cute welcome box of goodies waiting.

Getting cozy tonight as the temp is supposed to drop to 35° tonight. Tomorrow we should be visiting Saguaro National Park. Obviously more photos and fun to come tomorrow!
